An Operating System is the fundamental software that manages a computer. It handles the way the hardware behaves, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between all the applications, and the prioritization of apps if several run simultaneously. Any program that is installed on a computer functions by sending requests to the OS for different services via an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be performed using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting field, the Operating System is what commands a web hosting server together with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. In case there're virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS that runs on the server host OS.

Our VPS server solutions include three Linux releases which you can select from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are extremely stable and protected and the main reason to offer the 3 of them is to ensure that you can run any kind of application that you'd like, as different pieces of software could have different requirements for the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of developers who have created many hundreds of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System that you select, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to handle your hosting content. Of course, in case you decide that you need a new OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the OS for maximum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page since we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on your machine as different applications can have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and secure web hosting service. Depending on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also upgrade your OS routinely to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
