If you want to direct a domain that you have to a different domain or subdomain, one of the ways to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is directed to. That way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site which you have set up, but it will also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record created for the main domain address makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which we offer with each and every shared hosting plan, will enable you to set up CNAME records for any domain or subdomain hosted within the account with just a few mouse clicks. If you're not certain how to go about it, you can check out the video tutorial that's available within the CP, read the in depth Help article on the subject, or simply contact us and we can assist you 24/7, though it is not likely that you'll experience any issues as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to choose a domain/subdomain, input the hostname you're pointing to, and save the modification. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records permits you to have better control over your domain addresses and website content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow people with no previous experience to create this sort of records with ease.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to set up a CNAME record effortlessly. If you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to point a domain address to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain address to another company and use some third-party service which they provide, it won't take you more than 3 clicks to set up this type of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you are there, all that you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video in the CP on how to create a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
